Booking Tickets

When can I book tickets for The Picnic Train?

 

Tours are released periodically and appear on this website and are also announced via our social media platforms.

How do I book tickets for The Picnic Train?

 

All tickets need to be purchased online via our ticketing page on this website.

Do you offer Gift Certificates?

 

Yes, Gift Certificates are available via a link on the main menu on this website.

Do I need to pre-book tickets?

 

Yes. Whilst tickets may be purchased on the day, there will be no guarantee of availability. We encourage everyone to pre-book tickets online. Our experience is that most trains sell out in advance.

How does the pricing system work?

 

Ticket prices will vary depending on your choice of experience; and work on the basis that you must first purchase a compartment or seating bay in order to travel. This seating is cleaned before travel and is then yours for the duration of your travel.

Who can travel in my group?

 

Your group must consist of people who are in your bubble and who you are permitted to travel together with according to NSW Government COVID-19 Rules applicable at time of travel. Please also check our specific COVID-19 Conditions of Travel.

Can I book for a large group in our own carriage?

 

Yes, we have group discounts for group travel and various options to hire a private carriage. Please call The Picnic Train to discuss a suitable package for your group.

Is the Picnic Train wheelchair accessible?

 

The heritage equipment used on The Picnic Train has very limited wheelchair access. We ask that customers who are travelling in a wheelchair or those with restricted mobility call the booking office; 0419 832238 to discuss options available.

Can I book using the NSW Dine and Discover vouchers?

 

Dine and Discover vouchers are designed to boost employment and stimulate business growth. As The Picnic Train is a non-for-profit volunteer-run organisation, we are outside the scope of the voucher system

Do You Accept Companion Cards?

 

Companion Cards are not accepted at this point in time.

Can I bring a companion dog with me?

 

Companion dogs are not able to be catered for on our services, with the exception of Guide Dogs.

Can I return the next day?

 

All tickets are same-day return tickets. On weekends that we return to the same location, you will need to purchase a ticket for each day. You are, however, free to pass on the unused portions of your tickets to friends or relatives.

Can I purchase a one-way fare?

 

All our trains are budgeted for return travel occupancy and therefore only offered as return travel. You may pass on the unused portion to friends or relatives.

Can I book at the Central Station booking office?

 

No, The Picnic Train is not connected to Sydney Trains or NSW TrainLink in any way.

Do I need to print out my tickets?

 

You may show email confirmation of your tickets on your phone or tablet or a physical print out of your tickets. You will need to show your tickets to the Carriage Attendant when boarding.

How do I book using my Gift Certificate?

 

Simply fill in the voucher code at the checkout stage when booking and the value of the Gift Certificate will be deducted from the total.

For Your Safety

Do I need to wear a face mask?

 

We ask that customers wear face masks when boarding the train. Once on board you should wear a mask whenever moving around the train. You will receive an email prior to your trip with he latest conditions of travel.

Catering

Will there be a buffet service onboard the train?

 

Not for the remainder of 2021. We expect the buffet service to return in 2022. Customers are advised to bring their own food and beverage picnic hampers to enjoy on the train. BYO alcohol is accepted, however, please be advised that responsible service of alcohol will be implemented.

Other Facilities

Are there toilet facilities onboard the train?

 

Most of our carriages are equipped with toilet and wash room facilities. However, these facilities are closed while in metropolitan areas. We recommend you use the station toilets wherever possible.

Is there storage areas for prams?

 

Yes. However, please note there is limited space for storing large prams in the carriages. Please assist loading by having prams folded and ready to board before the train arrives at intermediate station stops. Please make sure they do not obstruct the walkway through the carriage.
